GJ - Day 5 - Opinion

One last ride :

Sooo.... I tried giving this game one last shot and... it failed me.... I really wanted this to work but it didn't. Basically, I wanted to do something crazy like make a monolith empire but it did not work since the settlers DID NOT LEAVE THE OUTPOSTS!

This is how it started out. I made a world and put some of the essentials and added a sign. The world was named Skyrim because of the popular video game series : Elder Scrolls.

Next.... the monoliths... So I wanted a whole lot of them but as you can see, I ran out of power and my people started dying at the bottom.....

Then, I moved on to another world, where I added all the things I had in my other one from yesterday but the people did the exact same thing without any reason....

That was it, I did not want to play this game again. At least, I got some monoliths in there and a sign to show off my world.

Final Thoughts :

Final thoughts on this game.... are mixed. This is a very unique game because it lets you control a group of settlers and you can make them create anything you want in your outpost. Now, like I have said before... this game is not for everyone. It's for the people that are looking for something fun and just to screw around with. If you're more of a hardcore player, you will not like this game.. however, if you're a strategic player that wants to create a settlement, you might like this game. Now for my opinion. I thought this was going to be a great game in the beginning because I like these sorts of games but there was a decline that I experienced. The decline was that, for some reason, my settlers would leave the internal structures after a short while of playing. Now, this can get very frustrating if you have a good world and are blooming in resources and settlers because it basically makes you restart your game. So, that is the main reason, I do not recommend this game. It has a game breaking glitch that forces you to start over and I've experienced this many times. So, don't let me turn you away from this game, give it a shot. If you're just getting started, play the tutorial and that should let you know if you want to keep playing or not. This will be my last post for this game, so thanks readers for staying with me for the past few days.
Jimmy, out!

GJ - Day 4 - Plan

Plan :

Alrighty, back at it again with day 4 this time. So I spent countless amount of seconds thinking about this, just kidding. I actually took some time. So what I'm thinking about doing is :

1. Build the essentials that I mentioned in last day's post which were the oxygen generator, airlock, water extractor, solar panels (big one for more energy), turbine (big one for more energy as well), canteen, dorm, and the bio-dome and storages ( for power and supplies) and a bar for morale.

2. After doing the first step, I will then build a landing pad because I want to get settlers before any of mine die. It will help get a lot of other settlers because they are attracted to well working settlements instead of ones that are absolutely terrible... like my first one... which we don't speak of because I forgot about the water.... But I am also going to set my priorities to be balanced because I will not need one specific type of scientist there.

3. Then, I'm going to try to build some things like the mine, and processing plant which will lead into defense. I will also add sick for the ill.

4. Finally, I am going to try to build the telescopes which will get me lasers and protect me from meteors.

Gameplay Screenshots and what happened :

Soooo I probably spent a good hour and a half on this and I had to start over twice because my workers, in the first world, had low morale and refused to work and in the second one, they were tired and since I did not have a dorm ready, they refused to work.... Now this last one... something strange happened.

Firstly, I did build all the essentials I was talking about.

Now, things started getting weird after I built the landing pad. After I built this, settlers started coming, however, my settlers inside my outpost did not leave at all after this. This has happened before but this was the last straw. I could not handle playing this any longer if my people were not going to work. The thing is that they weren't low on anything and they just stayed inside and could not build my other things.

So, after this nonsense, I could not build anything and did the best I could. This was my last screenshot because they were not doing anything. As you can see, the mine is not built, the processing plant is not built, and the cabin is also not built. This really annoyed and I just decided to stop playing. Settlers were still coming though as you can see but they didn't do anything either. I couldn't even build the lasers because of this....

What I conclude is that this game has a lot of glitches.

GJ - Day 3 - Review

Review :

So, this is my review for Planetbase and what I choose to do to be successful in this game. I have played it for a bit and want to give my opinions now. Basically how I start is by making the basics that are essential. The essentials are airlocks, oxygen generator, water extractor, solar panels, turbines and the canteen.

I also have a power collector to store power for the nights with no winds. So after making the essentials, you're going to want to build a water fountain, meal maker and tables in the canteen for food and beverages. After that you want a bio-dome, a large one, for food. You want a large one because it can hold the most amount of plants which means lots of food.

For the plants themselves, I chose the plants that give food instead of trees which don't because my settlers need food to survive. I did hit the very first milestone for surviving a day and I also got the milestone for bringing colonists to my base.

Now, I was going to build telescopes for lasers but something happened to my settlers..... They started to die and eventually, I did get biologists because I was out of food but something else happened... They were getting food from the bio-dome but they stopped storing it in the meal maker for some random reason and since they weren't getting food, they died.

Opinions :

My opinion of this game is that it is not for everyone. If you're the type of person that likes strategy games with settlements and prospering your outpost, then you will love this game. However, if you're more of the hands-on type, then this might not be your cup of tea. You're playing from a bird's eye view and you are basically the god controlling everything your people do. I am in the middle for this game, slightly towards the not liking it though. The reason I do not like this game very much is that it is a very unforgiving game in that if you're not fast enough, your colonists will die. However, it can be fun once you get going. Now, if you don't know if you're going to like this game, just try out the tutorial and if you find it extremely boring, you should move on to other games.

Choices and Predictions :

So, I forgot to make a bio-dome with food in it and by the time I did, my biologists were dead because of starvation. I only had one settler left so I made a landing pad with my priorities set to biologists only. Two arrived but after a while, the food was not being sent to the meal maker so that planet was scrapped. Next time, I am going to try to build the landing pad very quickly after building the essentials so I can get settlers without worrying about my welfare being poor so no one will come. A few tips for you guys when starting your base are :

- Build a landing pad after building a bio-dome and canteen.
- Build a storage for your electricity and supplies
- Scrap your ship if you're low on resources
- Make sure you set your priorities to which type of settlers you want.
- Have fun!

GJ - Day 2 - Preview

How to play Planetbase and what to do :

1. The first thing you want to do when you land is make an oxygen generator with a solar panel because your settlers need oxygen to survive and the solar panel will help generate the oxygen.

2. Next, you want to build an airlock for the oxygen. You can connect them by clicking on one then the other and clicking on the chain to connect them.

3. Then you want to build a canteen for your settlers. The canteen is basically the cafeteria and your people need it for nutrition.

4.  You also need to build a dorm for your settlers to live in and a bio-dome for food and for plants.

5. Once you build something, you can actually build the insides of it, such as adding beds, plants, etc.

6. You also need to build a power generator and a windmill because you need a way to generate energy without it being day because solar panels only work during the day.

7. You will also need a metal mine so you can get materials and resources. A processing plant for scientists and biologists will also be needed.

8. Next, you will need a sick bay for your ill settlers and a factory for your resources.

9. Almost done! You're going to need a lab for your scientists to work in.

10. Finally, add a landing pad for other settlers to come in and try to improve your outpost on your planet. Also, dismantle your ship for more resources.

Differences between tutorial and walk-thru :

So, if you're first starting up this game, I recommend playing the tutorial first, then going to watch the video. The main reason for this is that the tutorial actually tells you why you need some of the things. I do recommend watching the walk-thru after the tutorial because the aussie goes in-depth about some things such as meteors and resources. He goes into depth about things unlike the tutorial. He talks about water fountains in the canteen to hydrate your settlers and other cool tips like clicking on your settler to see their needs. If you want more knowledge about the game, watch the video but to get things going, play the tutorial first.

Tips :
Some tips I have starting off are :

- Be sure to build, water extractor, oxygen generator, windmill, and solar panels first because those are the essential things to survive. I died 3 times because I did not have enough things prepared for my planet.

- Build lasers as soon as you can because meteors will destroy your resources and that can eventually kill your settlers.

- Scrap your ship for more resources.

- Change the sizes of your buildings to generate more resources.

GJ - Day 1 - Reveal

What is this game?

PlanetBase is a strategy game where you guide settlers to create an outpost on a remote planet. It is basically like creating your own planet and trying to establish life on it without dying. So it's basically your own survival game because you have to protect your settlement from natural disasters. You must try to have an active and producing base for your people to survive and your outpost to live on.

What is this game about?

Now you might be wondering what this game is specifically about so let me elaborate. In this game, your settlers land on a planet and you have try to establish a base. You must prosper through and build mini bases and connect them together like this :

You can have bases for collecting energy, extracting water, mining metals, and manufacturing bots to prosper your base.

What do you do in this game?

Basically what happens in this game is that you must build your base with all your resources and make sure that it can sustain a natural disaster attack. Natural disaster as in getting hit by a meteor shower and all that stuff. Now once your first planet can hold its own, you will be able to unlock other planets such as the frozen planet, the gas planet and the storm planet.

What is the goal?

The goal of this game is just to expand your base and try to survive. There really isn't major goal like attacking someone else but that is the main goal of it, just to survive and have your outpost prosper.

Link to the walkthrough of the video -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwK86aipHLk

The aussie in the video talks about how to build a colony and how to get your people to do stuff such as getting resources. He also gives tips on how to build certain buildings and how to keep your outpost alive. This is a crucial video to watch if you're a beginner to this game. It will teach you the basics and how to expand your base.

Friday Post #6 (April 22/2016)

What I did :

This week in Info-Tech 11, we built cars in a car builder simulation game. It was an interesting "game" because we had to build specific cars. I found it hard because I did not know anything about cars and this game kind of helped. I played this game throughout 4 days and we had to build different cars every day.

What I learned :

I learned a few things this week such as car parts and how to build a fast car. At first I found this game hard but as the days went on, I learned more about cars and aerodynamics. It became easier everyday and eventually, 3 of us beat the record for the fastest car built in the class coming in at 194 MPH.

How to Download :

1. Download DOSBOX  - link here : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dosbox-for-google-chrome/jhceknlmaggijlkkcemdaghpniimajhd

2. Launch app

3. Look top right, choose to : Delete C:\ drive contents

4. Click on : Import local directory to C:\ drive

5. Find Acs-Hand-out Carbuild - Click OK

6. Shut down then restart app

7. Type : cd carbuild

8. Type : Car

How to play :

1. To build your car, you must build the mechanical parts first, press "M" and it will give you options of Chassis, Suspension, and brakes/tires. Those are your mechanical parts.

2. Next is the body, if you want to make a fast car, have good aerodynamics and less weight. Press "B" for body.

3. If you want your name in your car, Press "C" to customize the name and press "D" for decals. Press "A" to apply the decal and hit enter after you are done.

4. When you are done with your car, you can test it by pressing "T" in the main menu. You must do wind tunnel first before the road test so press "W" and then press "R" for road test. It will show your car and speed too.

3. If you want to save, go to Car storage by pressing "S" and choose to name your file and hit enter.
If you want to load that save, press "L" and put your file name in and hit enter to retrieve your saved car.

Friday Post #5 (April 8/2016)

What I did :

This week in Info-Tech 11, we did projects in Minecraft. We built a spaceship in Minecraft and it had to have been a spaceship from something. You were not allowed to do an original spaceship because we had to show what it was based off of. I built the Eagle 5 from Spaceballs and I added the wings and everything aswell. It was a huge creation because I wanted to add details such as creating the interior of the ship.

What I learned :

I learned how to take screenshots in Minecraft by hitting F2 and I also learned that you have to export save file to secure location otherwise the computer will delete the save fill. I also learned how to add fire to the back of the Eagle 5 for the wings. I also learned how to change the time in minecraft to suitable time that I would like.

How to :

- Create a Superflat world
When you start up Minecraft, go to "Single player" and click "Create World" at the bottom. Then go to "More World Options" and go "World Type." Click World Type until it says "Superflat."

- Create a Spaceship
Start from the bottom and build up about 10 blocks and start your base there. After you don't need the 10 blocks, delete them and continue building your spaceship until are satisfied

-Take and Find Screenshots
Press F2 to take a screenshot in Minecraft, then press "Esc" to go into the start menu. Then go to the options and go to "Resource packs." Click "Open Resource Pack Folder." Then click on ".Minecraft" at the top of the folder and go to the screenshots folder.

- Upload to Google photos and Create Album
Go to google photos and drag the pictures you want, then go to the top where it has the "+" sign and click it to get the album feature. Click Album and select the photos you want in your Album.

-Add Caption in Picasa and create Slideshows
Now go to Picasa and select the album that you wish to create into a slideshow. Then make sure they are organized in the proper order and click on the first picture. Go to the bottom and add caption.

After you finished the caption, go back to the album and make it public.

After you make it public. Go and down to "Link to this album" and click embed slideshow and and copy the link into your HTML of your post.

Publish and you are done.

Friday Post #4 (April 1, 2016)

What I did :

This week in flash, we finished up the Flash face animations. I chose a quote from Batman Begins (2005). The quote is "and you always fear, what you don't understand." This is a very true quote and it took a lot of time because instead of me doing 3 separate quotes, I did one long quote and had to separate it into 3 sections. It was essentially a hundred frames long and pretty hard to work around because I would get messed up by putting stops in places and it was confusing on when the quote would start. So, we basically finished the Face Animation this week.
What I learned :

I learned many things this week mainly because it was so hard. I learned that all the action scripts for the starting of the buttons were supposed to be together in the first frame of the action layer and the stops would be put into another layer. I also learned that I probably shouldn't use such a long quote next time. That is what I learned on the last week of using flash.

Some tips I have are :

- Grouping - CTRL + G

- Breaking - CTRL + B

- Instance name = Button name but the first word is lower case and no spaces

- Add another layer for stops, it really helps.

- Don't use a very long quote
